New York State Association of Veterinary Technicians Fall 2026 Update

As summer comes to a close and veterinary technology students across New York State transition back into their programs, the New York State Association of Veterinary Technicians (NYSAVT) continues to make meaningful strides in strengthening member engagement, supporting veterinary technology education, and building connections with the next generation of credentialed veterinary technicians.

NYSAVT continues to benefit from its member-run administration, creating opportunities for veterinary technicians to have an active voice in the direction of their professional association. The organization is also placing an increased emphasis on maintaining a presence within veterinary technology programs and student chapters throughout the state. Connecting with students early in their education provides an important opportunity to introduce them to professional advocacy, continuing education, networking, and the value of remaining engaged with their state and national professional organizations throughout their careers.

The Genesee Community College (GCC) Veterinary Technology Program is beginning the academic year with several exciting developments. GCC now offers both Fall and Spring admission, with applications currently open for the Spring semester. As an approved NYS CE provider, GCC will also host Harvesting Knowledge on October 25, 2026, offering seven hours of in-person continuing education. The GCC Vet Tech Club is kicking off the fall semester with plans for a USCSS Scent Detection Trial on November 8, 2026, and a Happy Ratters Trial on February 13–14, 2027, providing students with opportunities to interact with sport dogs and their handlers. The club also serves as a student chapter of the Feline Veterinary Medical Association, with plans underway to promote feline health and wellness both on campus and within the local community.

NYSAVT is also preparing to launch its Q3 newsletter, providing another avenue to strengthen communication with members, highlight opportunities across the state, celebrate the work of New York veterinary technicians and students, and keep the profession connected.

As we move into the fall, NYSAVT looks forward to continuing this forward momentum—strengthening membership, increasing our presence within veterinary technology programs, supporting student involvement, and building a stronger and more connected veterinary technician community across New York State.
