The New York State Association of Veterinary Technicians (NYSAVT) continues to grow its membership, strengthen leadership engagement, and expand professional outreach throughout New York State. Through enhanced communication, social media engagement, educational initiatives, and student collaboration, the organization remains focused on supporting veterinary technicians, educators, and students while increasing visibility for the profession.
College and Student Program Highlights
Students and veterinary technology programs across New York State continue to create meaningful educational opportunities focused on hands-on learning, professional development, and animal welfare.
Students from the Mercy University Veterinary Technology Club recently visited Tevaland Sanctuary Farm, where they gained firsthand experience working with rescued and rehabilitated farm animals. The experience provided valuable insight into animal welfare, husbandry, and compassionate veterinary care while reinforcing classroom knowledge through real-world application.
At Long Island University, veterinary technology students continue to participate in diverse experiential learning opportunities both locally and internationally. Students recently participated in international veterinary experiences in Thailand through Loop Abroad, including conservation-focused veterinary work and educational opportunities at Elephant Nature Park.
LIU students also completed specialty and emergency medicine placements at Upstate Veterinary Specialists, as well as externships at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. These experiences continue to help students develop advanced technical skills, professional confidence, and exposure to specialty veterinary medicine.
This quarter, representatives from NYSAVT attended the SUNY Delhi Career Fair to meet with veterinary technology students, connect with the student chapter, and promote the veterinary technology profession. The event provided valuable opportunities for networking, mentorship, and discussions regarding career pathways within veterinary medicine.
Upcoming Educational Newsletter
NYSAVT is excited to announce that the next quarterly newsletter edition, featuring continuing education (CE) content and additional professional resources, is scheduled for release in mid-July. The organization looks forward to continuing to provide educational opportunities, member updates, and student highlights that support the veterinary technology profession throughout New York State.
