NAVTA Leaders Volunteer at AVMA’s “Vet for a Day” Program

NAVTA President Jennifer Serling, MVEd, BVSc, AAS, CVT, RVT, VTES, FVTE, and President-Elect Anna Santos, MPH, LVT, volunteered during the American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AVMA) annual “Vet for a Day” program at the AVMA Convention in Anaheim, California.

The hands-on event, hosted by the AVMA in partnership with National Geographic’s Critter Fixers and Hill’s Pet Nutrition, introduced approximately 40 elementary and high school students to the world of veterinary medicine through a series of interactive learning stations.

Serling and Santos staffed the veterinary CPR station, where students learned basic CPR techniques using simulated animal models while gaining insight into the teamwork and technical skills involved in caring for animal patients. Throughout the program, students also participated in activities focused on suturing, ultrasound, and nutrition, offering a broader look at the many skills and areas of expertise involved in veterinary medicine.

Through their participation, Serling and Santos helped students gain a better understanding of the skills, teamwork, and dedication involved in veterinary medicine. Events like “Vet for a Day” provide students with an opportunity to explore careers in the profession and inspire the next generation of veterinary professionals.
