NAVTA Statement on 2025 Report, Where We Stand: NAVTA’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Landscape Survey

NAVTA is aware of the perspectives that have been shared about our recent report on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging within the veterinary technician profession. The report, Where We Stand: NAVTA’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Landscape Survey, was released in July 2025.

The report was based on feedback gathered from a survey of NAVTA members and was intended as an initial step to better understand experiences within our own community. It was not designed as a comprehensive academic study, but as a starting point to help inform future work and identify areas for continued exploration.

Since the report’s release, we have taken time to reflect on both the findings and the responses it generated and take that feedback seriously. We recognize that the report did not meet all expectations, and we take responsibility for that. We apologize for any harm the survey may have caused, as that certainly was not NAVTA’s intent, and we are committed to do better in our next effort. As part of that reflection process, NAVTA is engaging independent third-party partners to assess our current DEIB efforts, including the structure and role of our committee, and to help guide next steps.

We are aware of recent public statements that include assumptions about NAVTA’s volunteer leadership and internal volunteer committee transitions. Recent transitions occurred under different circumstances and should not be generalized or attributed to a single cause. NAVTA remains focused on reviewing our DEIB work thoughtfully, engaging independent support, and creating constructive opportunities for member input.

Our focus is on listening, learning, and building a more informed and effective path forward—one that reflects the needs of our members and the profession as they exist today, while expanding how we engage with a broader range of perspectives.

NAVTA remains committed to supporting veterinary technicians and strengthening the profession through thoughtful, ongoing work in this area, including cooperatively engaging with other associations and professional groups.

We trust our members to continue to approach complex issues with professionalism and care, considering multiple perspectives in order to make informed decisions. We welcome your input as this work continues and encourage members to share their perspectives using our Contact Us form, as we shape next steps together.
