Academy of Dermatology Veterinary Technicians Update

Like every other VTS group, the wheels at ADVT keep turning year-round!

In 2025, many of our members have been busy fulfilling our mandate to provide veterinary dermatology continuing education across North America. This included a lecture in the technician track at the North American Veterinary Dermatology Forum (NAVDF) in Orlando—where it’s been wonderful to see technician attendance grow each year at this incredible event. ADVT members also presented at regional and national veterinary conferences, contributed to peer-reviewed publications, and supported local veterinary teams through workshops and hands-on labs.

The next NAVDF will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana, May 1–3, 2026. It promises to be another outstanding opportunity for learning and networking. Everyone is welcome to attend, and if you have an interest in dermatology, this is a great itch to scratch. Multiple tracks will be offered, including a full day of technician-focused CE to expand your dermatology knowledge. For details, visit www.navdf2025.com/future-dates/.

We are thrilled to welcome three new members who have successfully passed the ADVT board exam and earned their Veterinary Technician Specialist (Dermatology) credentials:

  • Molly M. Bland, BS, RVT, VTS (Dermatology)
  • Kristina Matusik, CVT, VTS (Dermatology)
  • Dan White, MSc, BSc, RVN, VTS (Dermatology), NCert SAN, C-SQP

These accomplished technicians have demonstrated advanced knowledge and skills in veterinary dermatology, and we are proud to have them join our growing community of specialists.

Behind the scenes, ADVT continues to work hard—preparing next year’s exam for eligible candidates, updating SOPs, reviewing all committees, finalizing academy trademarks, and preparing to submit our petition for full specialty recognition to NAVTA. Members are also developing new dermatology resources for the veterinary community, including updated client education materials and quick-reference guides for common dermatologic procedures. There’s always a lot happening, and like so much in veterinary medicine, it’s truly a labor of love. We are proud of the dedication and expertise our members bring to advancing the specialty of veterinary dermatology—and we look forward to what the coming year will bring.
