Paving the Way with NAVTA’s New Strategic Plan

Blog Author: Jamie Rauscher, LVT
NAVTA President

I am thrilled to introduce NAVTA’s new strategic plan, which marks the beginning of an exciting chapter for our Association and the veterinary community. When I reflect on my years as a NAVTA member, it’s amazing to see how far we have come. We’ve accomplished so much in recent years. However, we’ve also faced challenges that have highlighted the need for a refocused and forward-thinking strategic plan, to better serve you as members, as well as navigate the evolving landscape of our profession.

With these challenges in mind, we began a comprehensive strategic planning process that involved careful analysis of industry trends, an honest evaluation of our strengths and weaknesses, and discussions with members, ensuring we accounted for all perspectives. Through this thorough process, we were able to set objectives that were both ambitious and realistic. The 2024-2026 plan is the result of these efforts, and I am confident that it sets a clear path to achieving our goals.

A Renewed Commitment

One of the foundational elements of our new strategic plan is an updated mission statement:

NAVTA is a diverse community of credentialed Veterinary Technicians, students, and Veterinary Assistants, united in advancing the profession of veterinary nursing through strategic advocacy, awareness, and professional development.

This new statement acknowledges that our strength is in our membership and reinforces our commitment to fostering the success of every veterinary professional, regardless of where they are in their career path.

While our overall goal of advancing the Veterinary Technician profession remains the same with this new plan, it realigns our efforts to ensure meaningful progress in strengthening both NAVTA and the profession. It focuses on several key areas, including advocacy, membership growth, collaboration, professional development, and financial stability. Each of these pillars is critical, and will thrive most with involvement from each of you, our members. I look forward to sharing more in my upcoming article in The NAVTA Journal, which will discuss our planned tactics to reinforce our success in these areas.

Our strategic plan guides a future vision for where we want the Veterinary Technician profession to be. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to play a role in creating it, because it directly impacts the lives of our diverse membership and ensures that my colleagues, myself, and future professionals are supported in the profession we love. Look for updates, highlights, and deep dives on the 2024-2026 strategic plan, available HERE in future NAVTA communications.
