The Academy of Dermatology Veterinary Technicians (ADVT) continues to move forward with its mission of advancing veterinary technician education and specialty practice in dermatology.
The 2026 North American Veterinary Dermatology Forum (NAVDF), held in Indianapolis, included a dedicated technician track, providing veterinary technicians with valuable opportunities for continuing education, professional development and networking in veterinary dermatology. The ADVT was pleased to see continued recognition of the important role veterinary technicians play within the dermatology team.
The Academy’s numerous committees have also continued their work behind the scenes, reviewing and updating many aspects of the organization and it’s workings. One exciting development is that the ADVT is currently working on another version of its specialty examination to be offered to applicants pursuing the VTS (Dermatology) credential.
ADVT also recently reached an important milestone by becoming officially trademarked, ensuring that the Academy name, logo and identity are protected as we continue to grow.
Another big 10 year item was submitting our application for permanent approval as an academy to the NAVTA – we are all looking forward to a positive response!
Currently we have 17 VTS (Dermatology) members in good standing, with an estimated 44 active applicants working toward specialty certification. Since the Academy began accepting applications, a total of 113 veterinary technicians have applied to pursue the VTS (Dermatology) credential.
The ADVT is grateful to all of the volunteers who continue to contribute their time and expertise to the Academy’s committees and initiatives. We look forward to continuing to build the foundation for veterinary technician specialization in dermatology and supporting technicians who are passionate about providing exceptional dermatologic care.
One final thought for you: You never know how far you reach! Our ADVT Facebook demographics show the highest number of views in descending order as United States, Egypt, Philippines, India, Thailand and Ethiopia. Word is definitely getting around!
