NAVTA 2024 - 2026 Strategic Plan

The work of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) is guided by its strategic plan, which incorporates input from members and stakeholders and reflects emerging trends and priorities in the veterinary technician specialty and animal healthcare. This plan is crucial for you, our members, because it outlines our collective priorities to advance the profession, ensuring we stay ahead of industry developments and meet your evolving needs along with those of the animals you care for. Below is an overview of the key components and objectives of our strategic plan.

Mission

A precise, concise and inspiring declaration of the fundamental purpose for which the organization exists.  Who we are, what we are trying to accomplish, and what we do to accomplish that.

NAVTA is a diverse community of credentialed veterinary technicians, students, and veterinary assistants, united in advancing the profession of veterinary nursing through strategic advocacy, awareness, and professional development.

Vision

A clear and compelling catalyst; what the organization seeks to be or become.

NAVTA will be the unifying voice that leads the profession of veterinary nursing and veterinary technology.

Strategic Framework

NAVTA's strategic framework is designed to provide a clear roadmap for achieving our mission and vision. The NAVTA strategic plan directs the NAVTA Board, committees, and staff to pursue five key goals, each of which has multiple objectives:
Goal #1: Enhance NAVTA’s role as a strategic advocate for Veterinary Technicians
  • Align the District Representative, Government Relations, and Veterinary Nurse Initiative Committees around the NAVTA overall mission and objectives as they relate to title protection, utilization, etc.
  • Impact positive outcomes for NAVTA and its members by engaging with policymakers and regulators
  • Create a membership base that is well informed and empowered to advocate for itself
  • Develop a public awareness program to increase pet owner understanding of the roles and value of Veterinary Technicians
Goal #2: Grow and retain a base of emerging and experienced veterinary professionals to become NAVTA members
  • Support the growth and engagement of student members
  • Refine and strengthen the member value proposition, thus retaining members and attracting new ones
  • Attract experienced technicians to NAVTA
  • Build student leadership capability
Goal #3: Develop and foster relationships with allied organizations to advance NAVTA’s mission and reputation
  • Increase collaboration with our current allied organizations and explore new relationships
  • Build active relationships with the state associations and Veterinary Technician Specialist academies with the intent of strengthening communications and providing access to resources for their association management
Goal #4: Enhance and expand both professional and personal development opportunities
  • Provide Committee Chair/Volunteer Leadership Development
  • Develop new content/means of content delivery
  • Create professional and personal development programs/opportunities
Goal #5: Continue to optimize NAVTA’s financial health to advance its mission
  • Conduct annual review of financial health
  • Create new non-dues revenue streams/sponsorship strategy
