The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) announced today it is collaborating with The North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) and VCA Animal Hospitals (VCA) to raise consumer/pet owner awareness of and support for the critical roles Veterinary Technicians play in veterinary practices. The campaign will deliver educational materials to veterinary practices worldwide, using the theme “Trust Your Vet Tech.”
NAVTA President Jamie Rauscher, LVT, noted, “The campaign will reach thousands of pet owners as they visit their hospitals. Using eye-catching posters, flyers, and other materials, the goal is to inform pet owners of the education, skills, and responsibilities of Veterinary Technicians so that they can feel comfortable discussing their pets’ healthcare with us.”
NAVC CEO Gene O’Neill added: “We are so pleased to have NAVTA join us in this important campaign. While credentialed veterinary nurses and technicians are the veterinary equivalent of registered nurses in human medicine in terms of education and skills, an NAVC survey of pet owners nationwide found that most pet owners are unaware of the wide range of care credentialed veterinary nurses and technicians provide. Through this campaign, we intend to change perceptions among pet owners. As the leading voice and association for Veterinary Nurses and Technicians, having NAVTA as a partner will greatly contribute to the success of our program.”
Leveraging VCA Animal Hospitals’ national network of more than 1,000 veterinary hospitals, NAVC’s global network of 600,000 veterinary professionals, and NAVTA’s more than 8,500 individual members, the “Trust Your Vet Tech” campaign will provide facts about the role and education of Credentialed Veterinary Technicians.
A key element of the campaign is the “Toolkit for Change,” which includes downloadable posters, social media posts, email graphics, and a landing page dedicated to pet owners. All NAVTA members are encouraged to use the items in the Toolkit at their practices. Items in the toolkit are customizable, allowing users to include their practice name and contact information.
